Pray for my parents
Just a little note to ask you to pray for my parents. They are in Morocco right now, pray for them that the Lord would open great doors with our friends over there. If you would like to know more about his trip, go to the website and check out his blog.
Pray for great opportunities to be seized. There is so much to do to share the love of Christ around the world.
Jacob is getting better
Just wanted to write you a note and let you know that Jacob is getting better. He just got back from the emergency room after his last I.V. antibiotic. The doctor said that they had to do a very aggresive treatment to beat the pnuemonia. He has been walking around for the last 4 days with an IV in his hand. They had to change it once and that was no fun. They took both out and he came home showing me that he had normal hands again. They have said that we have to give him pills and some other nebulizer treatments for another 4 months. Thank you so much for praying for him. I probably got 80 letters telling us that you would be praying for us. Thank you so much.
Pneumonia in Peru (and at my house)
There have been at least 48 children in Peru die with pneumonia this year. As you in the states are getting into the summer months, we on the other side of the equator are getting into winter. No heating and air in the houses have made this winter a very difficult one. The thermometers in some places in Peru have gotten down to -4 degrees. There have been over 7000 cases of pneumonia in Peru this year.
Well it should be 7001 now. Jacob, was told that he had asthma but after taking treatments for a couple of days still couldn’t sleep, he would cough all through the night. We just left the house at 9:30 pm and took him to the emergency room. Peru is a beautiful place when it comes to emergency rooms, we don’t fill out papers for 4 hours normally, we actually take it like an emergency and get to taking care of the patient. We were out of there and back home at midnight. We had a doctors appointment and an xray and a nebulizer treatment and an IV put in him. Not bad for 2 1/2 hours. The doctor says that he has Bronchial Spasms right now, the beggining stages of pneumonia and Asthma. Needless to say he isn’t a happy camper.
The doctor let him go home but we have to go to the hospital 3 times a day for antibiotics for the first 3 days and then they will evaluate how he is doing. Pray for him that he gets better pretty quickly, trying to keep him down is going to be a chore. Thanks for staying up to date with all that is going on down here.
Trying to work on the blog
I will be trying to work on the blog to figure out how to put pictures up on the blog. The template that I am using now doesn’t allow it but I will try and figure out how to change that around. Just keep your eyes open and hopefully you will see some changes.
Construction has started again at the Bible College
We are very excited to announce that construction has started again at the Bible College. Businessmen Commited to World Evangelism have decided to help build the next part of the building here in Peru. We are in the midst of building a small auditorium that we will use for Chapel as well as special classes etc. This auditorium will seat 150 people. We should have it ready by Pastors school in October. We are so excited about this. It is great to see the Bible College continue to advance. Having the new building will be great and will be used on a daily basis.
Jacob has Asthma
Be praying for Jacob, we just had to take him to the doctors, we thought he might have problems with pneumonia again. He has had full blown pneumonia twice already and so that is what it sounded like. The doctor saw him and said that it was asthma. He gave him a treatment and he seems to be doing better, he also gave us a long long list of things that he couldn’t be around. Kind of hard to do all they ask you to do in a third world country but anyway. He said that 50% of the kids outgrow it, we will see what happens. Pray for him that he would get a good nights sleep tonight, last night he coughed all night. Thanks for staying up to date with what is going on.
This strike in Arequipa was crazy!!!!
The latest strike in Arequipa was on Wednesday. It was a pretty crazy one. The manifesters came out and blocked the road and started putting tires and burning them in the streets etc. they put gigantic boulders in the road as well. Over 20 people were arrested. On the front page of the newspaper, the word VIOLENCE was in all caps, they say that the aggression was the worst seen in Arequipa for over 15 years. The mayor of Arequipa was out as a part of the strike showing his thoughts on everything. One man died while trying to drive through the city they put a rock through his window and the mob stoned him to death. Pray for the city, the strike is over for now but they plan on taking up arms again on the 11th or 12th of July.
Back at Home
Well, we finally made it back home. I decided to fly from Tacna, I was very very tired and found out that the ticket for a 20 minute flight from Tacna was only $27 versus paying $12 for a 6 hour bus ride. I opted to pay $15 extra, it was well worth it. The strike while we were gone was pretty crazy. I am so glad to be back here at the house. I went in to the office early today and have been dealing with problems galore, not things that you are supposed to blog about. Pray for me that the Lord would help me to have the wisdom to counsel correctly. I was reading my Bible a few days ago and God gave me a verse that was very good for dealing with problems.
Proverbs 14:4 says “Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.”
This showed me that if you want to have abundance or see God do great things then you must be willing to clean up after the ox. Pray with me that the Lord will help us to handle everything correctly. Thanks for staying up to date with everything going on here in Peru.
On the road again with a STRIKE!!!
We have had a great time here in Chile with Open Door Baptist Church and with Missionary Curtis Couch. Although we have enjoyed it, there is always something special about heading back home. We will be leaving tonight at 2 am to go to Arica. Please be praying that we make it there OK, it is only a 5 hour trip. From there we have to go across the border to Tacna. The country was on strike today and hopefully we will be able to make it back to Peru. This could turn into an interesting trip. They normally close the roads down so we will see what happens, I will put another blog up and let you know as the trip goes on. Pray that we make it fine back to Peru without any problems. Thanks for staying up to date with all that is going on.
Treated like Kings
I tell you what, since we have been here in Chile, I think that I have gained about 20 pounds. The people here, have been feeding us like never before. We enjoyed the time together and the fellowship. The food was great, just that there was too much of it. Bro. Curtis and Mrs. Debra had Julio Soncco and myself here at their house, they treated us like kings. We had wonderful breakfasts and just anything we needed they were always there to help us out with. I thank God for the privilege of calling the Couches co-laborers with us. Please be in prayer for them as they continue to do what God has called them to do here in Chile.
